Default Flavor of the Weekend

Its already happening. The flavor of the weekend.

Pack Hunters (modded alitlte of course).

These are Rangers that go /P and spam Spear Attacks under Tiger's and Expertise. Sometimes comes with pets.

Team Arenas is FULL of 4 Pack Hunter teams (usually packing Tranq/NR to screw monks). The DPS on these is FREAKIN INSANE - so they usually pwn any group before anything nasty happens. The lack of good healing usually ends these groups if they arent good enough.

You can even watch Halls matches and people are packing 1-3 of them in groups for Pressure...

(As a Sidenote, if you listen to WoC then you'll love this...They were right. This weekend is all about what PWNS and what you can spike/gank/etc with the best. Everyone has gone to Pack Hunters because the DPS is insane on them).

Dervishes are more like Assassins..look good on paper, but are really limited in how good they can be, and will mostly be stripped to 1-2 cookie cutter builds when the game is released. Packing 1 Defile Enchant pretty much says GG to any attacking style dervish. The one Dervish I've seen used good was a support dervish in HA - using things like Imbue Health and Avatar of Melandru.

I tried out the Dervish in the baby arena, just to get a feel for it. Didn't really like it, and it's way too enchant dependent to last long.

Every other team you hit in Team Arenas is Pack Hunters now.

Heres how it goes:
My Team when we first wanted to run it Ran almost un-modded 4 Pack Hunters (all we did was add NR/Tranq).

So we have NO HEALING (most important to consider) and no Support.

We go up against The Fishmongers guild group. They had a mesmer, monk, Pack Hunter, and warrior. Final Score was 7 to 11 them beating us. Most important part is even through having NO HEALING on our part, and facing a Messer Pack and Warrior, and fighting a team with a High Rank Guild Monk on it - We ALMOST beat them... Think about if he had more support and were able to heal ourselves...Woulda been GG.

Meh.

I give it a day before someone comes up with something to kill that fad.

Either that or Anet will tone them down on the next beta preview.

The event is a commercial for these classes. Yeah, they'll be toned down in release, just as assassin and ritualist was compared to the Factions PvP event.

"Shields Up" ???

Or are spears not treated as arrows?

I suppose Empathy / Spiteful would make them attack themselves to death, monk would need Aegis to get the Mes / Nec into place. They could use Physical Resistance maybe to reduce the DPS... There are ways to counter, but obviously it will get "adjusted" in the future somehow.
